So why practice Yoga?
It is about using it or losing it, that’s why I practice Yoga. That goes for the physical as well as the mental. I don’t want to be the 80 yr old guy walking with a stoop and a walking cane.. Not if I can help it. And hopefully, I can keep all my marbles!
Are you’re fairly active but still feel stiff? Does your job give you any work related muscles aches and problems? Do you want to learn how to create calm in the mind? In a Yoga class, I enjoy doing functional movements that you can link together into a sequence of moves. Occasionally in class, we throw in something a bit more advanced. Everyone likes to progress in something ey? These moves make your body stronger and more flexible, plus the process of concentrating on your body as you’re doing these poses can be calming for the mind. The postures of Yoga make you aware of correct alignment. This I carry through into my daily life. Knees bent back straight and all that jazz. Have you heard of people slipping a disc from just bending over? Maybe if they had their abs engaged and bent at the knees with a straight back, they would be okay? I’m no doctor, but I do know that by practicing muscle strengthening and lengthening exercises and being mindful of my body I’m keeping myself more safe from injury than if I wasn’t. This beginner’s class will go over about 15-20 poses on the mat. We run through these poses getting an understanding of alignment and also, very importantly, that there is a variation for most poses that give the yogi (that’s you!) an option if they are less flexible. If you live in and around North Brisbane and fancy trying out a Yoga class, then we have a taster session happening at the Yoga4life studio, 12 Paul Street, Brighton, 4017 on December 21st at 7pm. It's an hour and a half class going over the basics of yoga. We go through a few poses, practice some breath work and try a bit of meditation. If you're keen to give it a try then you can sign up here. If you want to know some more you can give me a call. So what have you got to loose? sign-up and I'll see you on the mat!
