Yoga at YogaJak is specifically focused on men's bodies. We keep it simple with easy to understand instructions. The practice is designed for men and taught by men. The benefits from yoga come from a regular, consistent practice. All classes are suitable for beginners but all levels are welcome.
Maybe you’ve heard about the benefits of Meditation - but reckon you can’t do it? Did you know that the mind is actually designed to think? A lot! But there are tools we can use to train the mind. Forget about the image of a guy floating above the ground sat cross legged - it’s not all airy fairy stuff. Just like when you go to the gym to do a workout, you know you will only see results with regular sessions. Whether our goal is to strengthen the body or strengthen the mind, commitment is the key if you want results.
The Yoga poses or Asanas have been used by men for centuries to get their heads away from the busy busy day and into a focused state where they could switch off. This was done by concentrating on the movements of the body and also focusing on the breath, using the breath as an anchor for the mind. Once they’d gone through a few poses they found it easier to meditate. Learning to see the thoughts as they come along and let them pass without getting involved in them is a skill you’ll learn with a regular practice. All sessions combine movement with meditation and will help ease stress and anxiety, increase grey matter in your brain (that’s the stuff that helps with memory!) and calm you down if you’ve got a short fuse.
No experience is required for these sessions and you'll be welcomed into a great community of blokes. I'll guide you through the basics; observe and assist when needed and can work around each individual student’s limitations. You'll get my full support and I'll help you modify poses if you are working any past injuries.
Steve Jeff, YogaJak
"Just completed my first 'real' Yoga class at age 47. Awesome, great class, instructor explains poses clearly, came away feeling great, here starts my Yoga journey!" PAUL
"I like that YogaJak is dedicated to Men's Yoga. To know you're coming into a relaxed group of guys in the same boat, who've usually never done yoga before, makes it more appealing, no risk of embarrassing myself! And it's not just about turning up to do the moves, there's a banter, coffee, chats, jokes and mates. I'd recommend it to any bloke out there thinking of giving it a try." MATT
"Yoga helps keeps things loose, but has also helped with my core strength which is important for kite surfing as well as life in general. I'm much more flexible all over and always see constant progress. I've even learned how to meditate successfully! Steve is down to earth, really easy to talk to and very understanding of each person's personal capabilities." PAUL
"I dig a lot of trenches in my line of work so generally come home feeling sore and tired, but the classes have helped heaps. I had never been any good at meditating - nor seen the point, but after practising savasana at the end of Steve's classes, I know how to clear my mind and relax and sometimes without falling asleep! I've noticed that during the day I'm less stressed after a Yoga session, this is good as being self employed can get a bit stressful! Steve is a top bloke, very enthusiastic about yoga and its benefits." MATT
"I've been suffering from lower back pain for years. After just 5 weeks of yoga with Steve, the tightness in my lower back has eased and I now feel stronger. The small increase in flexibility and strength has really helped." CHRIS
"Regular yoga is helping to keep my back injury under control and maintain flexibility and strength, I have been attending twice a week for almost 12 months now and have a notice a massive improvement in my lower back, hips and core strength. Steve has a very relaxed way about teaching us blokes Yoga, it's informative, informal, fun, but most of all it's beneficial to my health physically and mentally." STEVE
"Great bunch of guys - I never thought I’d enjoy yoga this much! Thanks Steve!" TRENT
"Every morning I would struggle to put my socks & work boots on, now after yoga every week I can put them on without hassle. I used to be easily annoyed, especially while driving. Yoga keeps me calm and less stressed over the week. As a guy getting past the stigma of "yoga is for women" Steve's class removes that by creating a casual and supportive environment for like minded guys trying to better themselves. Having a few laughs with the boys or taking a nap at the end of the class, who cares? "Hey it's your yoga" JADE
A few of the fellas and I went away for a day to Kondililla Eco Resort to practice Yoga. Here's the first two hours.
Myself and Dave Kinnane from the Yoga Project Australia run men-only classes up and down the Sunny Coast, We got together to talk about the benefits of Yoga. Well, that's what we tried to do, but in the end it turned into more of a comedy show. But that's fine, I don't like to take myself too seriously!
